How do i turn off autoplay on windows xp
You'll unfortunately have to do some reading and testing to confirm what values, etc. I tried to quote only the applicable parts needed for a better understanding of how this works below but the source of the articles each have a link beneath each.
For operating systems that do not include Gpedit. Determines whether Autoplay is enabled on each drive connected to the system. When Autoplay is enabled, media starts automatically when it is inserted in the drive. The value of this entry consists of 32 bits. Only proceed if you're confident in what you are doing, and are prepared to restore the registry if necessary. Once in the Explorer folder, double-click the entry NoDriveTypeAutoRun if present and change the value to "95 00 00 00".
Once the above is completed, exit Regedit and reboot the computer. Autoplay should now be disabled. Performing the steps below require you edit the system registry. Make sure you are aware of the issues that could occur if the incorrect registry entry is made. Before attempting the instructions below, verify the CD not AutoPlaying can do this. Not all CDs are capable of being auto played.
