Fellows will work with our expert clinicians and physician scientists, to gain skills in clinical and translational research. The clinical fellows are expected to productively participate in the clinical and translational research activities of the Department of Dermatology, publish scholarly clinical research articles during their fellowship and make at least one scientific presentation.
Fellows will also interact with pathology, oncology and transplant teams in multidisciplinary patient care. They will work with basic scientists on translational research projects. Fellows will have the opportunity for organizational leadership role in organizing local cutaneous oncology meetings.
Preference will be given to those who have completed a residency in internal medicine or dermatology and have an interest in an academic career. Two dermatopathology fellowship positions are available. Fellowships in research are also available with staff at the various institutions of Harvard Medical School. Applicants must be Board-certified or eligible for certification in Pathology or Dermatology and have a full Massachusetts license prior to starting the fellowship, and, if an international medical graduate, have a valid ECFMG certificate and visa.
Research facilities available at each participating institution include specialized histology laboratories, transmission and scanning electron microscopes, and laboratories for immunocytochemistry, including immunofluorescence and molecular biologic studies and laser capture microdissection and genetic profiling using microarrays.
Pathologists receive training in clinical dermatology and dermatologists receive training in general pathology as required for certification. The fellow is expected to complete a project suitable for presentation at a national meeting and publication in a medical journal.
