Building sims houses
In one of my previous build mode articles , I gave you a complete introduction to the build mode screen and all of its functions. If you're not familiar with the build mode screen, you might want to take a look at that first. Moving on now to exteriors, let's build a basic house using those tools.
The easiest type of house to start with is a simple square or rectangle. This is all you need for building simple homes, whether you want your sims to live in a low-budget manufactured home, a quaint little cottage, a stately Greek revival house, or a sleek box-style modern house. Open build mode and click on this menu on the bottom of the page. Start with the room tools to build your first house. Now comes the fun part: giving your house some style.
All this can be done by clicking different parts of the house image on the bottom left side of the screen. Remember, if you don't like something you can always click "Undo," and if you change your mind, you can click "Redo.
Doors and windows are functional objects, so they have very specific placement slots. Sometimes they just won't go in the exact spot you want them to go. Sometimes you may need to fuss with the placement to make it more aesthetically appealing. A new base game update coming in June for the new The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle Expansion Pack will include the ability to freely move and place doors and windows! Note, you will not have to buy the expansion pack to get this upgrade.
Once you get comfortable with the tools for building a box-shape house, take it to the next level. To add a bit more realism to the game, players can construct one more than just one building on a lot. Of course, the main house's a given, but it's fun to let creativity run wild and add a few smaller builds to the property.
For example, how about an art studio where the hard-working mom can just take some time to herself and relax? Try creating a garden shed where the family stores their tools, or a playhouse just for the children.
Once again, there are plenty of possibilities, and each of them will make the build look more interesting and spectacular. When focusing on building the nicest bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and others, it's easy to forget that there's a lot more variety in what the player can build.
For example, the house will be all the more interesting if it has both an attic and a basement. The basement can be either closed or open without a roof and used for growing plants or storing tools. The attic, meanwhile, can store items the Sims don't currently need. Alternatively, it can even double as an extra bedroom for friends of the family, or serve as an art or music studio.
Pools enjoy a certain infamy in The Sims , as the players have used them many times to drown their unfortunate Sims. However, adding a pool or another form of water — such as a fountain, a small pond, or even a lake — can bring lot of charm to the lot. Pools are ideal for active Sims who enjoy swimming or just tanning in the sun, while ponds are great for those who would like to start fishing.
And, of course, mermaids will appreciate having a lot of water on their lot, since they need it even more than human Sims do. If you do not want to waste hours on measuring the right calculations of a bedroom to entertainment room ratio, then the easy mode tool is your best friend.
This is the latest feature in The Sims 4, which greatly streamlines the building mode. The easy tool also has a bunch of other options, including premade houses and premade room measurements. It even has a bundle that includes items inside already. These are perfect for when you just find this mode tedious. Walls are the foundation of building your house here, and you gotta start somewhere, right?
So if you want to get started already, go to the very middle part of the lot and make a square. Simple, right? Okay, now make a larger square that surrounds it. Now, maybe you have an outline of how you want to start your house. You ARE going with the basics first, right? While this is a bit subjective, it always helps if you can either expand or narrow down a specific room.
Is your Sim cranky while in the kitchen area despite the clean environment?
